A slow afternoon of seaside parks and soba in a garden

Yuigahama Station once ceased operations during wartime, and was reopened in 1948, continuing to connect the residential district with the coastline. Here, there are not only summer beaches, but also traditional folk restaurant eateries and access to Hase's residential streets. Enoden train vehicles are preserved at the seaside park, adding a rail memory to the seaside relaxation; followed by a bowl of soba for lunch, one can experience the slower pace of everyday life in Kamakura compared to popular tourist spots.

THE STORY OF EN13

A slow afternoon of seaside parks and soba in a garden

There are also railway memories by the beach.

Yuigahama’s seaside park offers places to sit and enjoy the sea, together with a preserved Enoden train. Use it as a pause between the beach and neighborhood, taking in Sagami Bay and traces of the railway in local life. Swimming arrangements still depend on the areas opened for the current season.

Eating hand-pressed soba by the courtyard

Matsubara-an brings together a traditional house, garden and handmade soba in Yuigahama, with tempura and seasonal Japanese dishes alongside. Linger over a meal before returning to the coast. On the map, choose the Kamakura restaurant in Yuigahama to avoid heading to the same brand’s Koshigoe branch.

WALK A LITTLE FURTHER

  • Kamakura Beach Park - Yuigahama Area

    Park opening
Always open, with no fixed closing days. Walking is free; daytime use is recommended.
    Preserved train
Vehicle access from 09:00 to 16:00; will be closed in case of rain or strong winds, etc.
    Suggested visit length
20–40 minutes; allow 1 hour if combining it with a coastal walk (editorial suggestion).
Visit the train interior before your sunset walk

The park's opening hours differ from the operating hours of the preserved vehicle No. 107; to enter the vehicle cabin, visitors must arrive at the park before 16:00, then proceed to take a coastal walk. The grassy area and play equipment zone are suitable for resting en route, but entry into the preserved vehicle is not guaranteed during rainy or strong wind conditions.

To see the preserved train, reach the park before four in the afternoon.

The Tankoro in the Yuigahama area of Kamakura Seaside Park is preserved Enoden car No. 107. It entered service in 1931 and was entrusted to Kamakura City for preservation in 1982 after retirement. The park can be visited at any time, but the carriage interior usually opens 9:00–16:00 and closes in rain or strong winds. To see inside, visit the park before an evening walk by the sea. Nearby lawns and play equipment also make it easy to divide a coastal walk into two relaxed sections.
