At the end of the coffee scent lies the sea.

Shonan-kaigankoen Station was originally called Nishikata (西方) and received its current name in 1958, reflecting the railway’s connection with seaside tourism. The platforms are still within Katase’s residential streets, so reaching the sea requires a walk from the station. Small shops and houses gradually give way to broad views of Enoshima and Sagami Bay. Coffee, the coast and the aquarium make a leisurely Shonan afternoon.

From the surf painting to the real coastline

The platform is located in a residential area, so access to the coast still requires a walk; on clear days it's suitable for viewing the sea, but during strong winds and rain, indoor activities should be chosen instead. Enoshima Aquarium can be added as a separate, full visit duration, not included in this coffee and coast short trip.

THE STORY OF EN05

At the end of the coffee scent lies the sea.

The station name points toward the coast, walking through daily life

Shonan-kaigankoen Station was originally named Nishikata (西方). Its new name brought seaside tourism directly onto the route map. The platforms remain in Katase’s residential streets. As you walk toward the coast, houses, junctions and small shops gradually give way to broad sand beaches. That transition from town to sea defines this stop.

Goodman's a drink, then head to Sagami Bay

Goodman Coffee roasts beans in Katase. Enjoy a cup or buy beans before continuing to Shonan Kaigan Park and Enoshima Aquarium. The café, coast and aquarium are not all right at the station entrance; plan them as a walking route.

WALK A LITTLE FURTHER

Explore Shonan-kaigankoen on foot.

  • Shonan-kaigankoen

Walk along the coastal path to see Enoshima and the beach; from this station, you still need to cross the urban area.

    Access arrangements
The outdoor trails, lawns, and plazas are recommended for strolling during the day; Surf Village has its own opening hours.
    Closed days
The outdoor area does not have a unified closing day; indoor services follow their respective opening days.
    Fees
Strolling in the general park is free; parking, lockers, and warm shower facilities are charged separately.
    Reservations
General walking tours do not require advance booking; group activities, venue reservations, and specific services are subject to separate management regulations.
    Suggested visit length (editorial)
45 to 90 minutes, choose one section; additional 2 to 3 hours if combined with the aquarium.
Arrange the indoor rest area and the free coastal access separately

Surf Village normally opens 8:30–17:30, extended to 18:30 in July and August. It closes on the 1st and 3rd Mondays, moving to the next weekday when these are public holidays, and from December 29 to January 3; there are no closing days in July or August. These are the building's service hours, not operating hours for the entire coast.

Start with the central lawn, or proceed eastward to the aquarium

The park extends along the coast, with central areas offering grassy lawns and terraces for rest; the aquarium is located on the east side, while Surf Village is situated to the west. From this station, you must pass through the city center to reach the seaside, so it's recommended to choose your direction based on your next destination, rather than retracing your steps to complete the entire path.

The park is long; should I choose the seaside breeze deck or the aquarium first?

Prefectural Shonan Kaigan Park stretches for about 2 kilometers along the Kugenuma and Katase coasts. Around the central Sea Breeze Terrace (海風のテラス) are boardwalks and lawns, with benches on grassy slopes overlooking the sea. The eastern end is near Enoshima Aquarium and the direction of Enoshima; Surf Village and beach sports areas lie to the west. After coffee, choose a direction: the central lawn for quiet time, or east for the aquarium. Avoid repeatedly doubling back simply to cover the whole park.

First check the programs you'd like to see, then decide on the time to head along the coast.

Check the day’s schedule before entering, and plan a route linking the main Sagami Bay tank, the jellyfish displays and the shows you want to see. Paid interactive experiences have their own purchasing and capacity rules; a standard admission ticket does not necessarily include them.
