Youth stops at the level crossing, and sea wind takes over the story.

This little seaside station opened in 1903 as Nissaka (日坂), later becoming Kamakura-kokomae. Its platform facing Sagami Bay is one of Enoden’s defining views. The nearby level crossing attracts anime fans with a familiar composition, but it remains an everyday road used by students, residents and vehicles. Pause briefly in a public pedestrian area to see the sea, then continue toward Koshigoe or Shichirigahama, carrying the sound of waves and trains with you.

This stop, walk like this · Suggested 120–180 minutes

Sea views depend on visibility; strong winds and rainy days are unsuitable for waiting long at the train station. The level crossing remains a route for students and residents, so do not stop on the tracks or lanes; walking from the high school entrance to Shichirigahama involves a cross-station extension and is not merely a few steps from the station.

THE STORY OF EN08

Youth stops at the level crossing, and sea wind takes over the story.

A place that evokes memories of youth – "The Crossroads of Fate"

The sea, level crossing and green train remind many visitors of the opening of the Slam Dunk anime. Calling it the Crossroads of Fate is a romantic way to hold memories of youth; in daily life, it remains a road for students and residents. Stand in a designated pedestrian area, wait for a train and keep a scene from your own journey.

Looking from the platform towards Sagami Bay

Kamakura-kokomae’s appeal goes beyond its level crossing: the platform itself faces the sea. Pause to watch the waves, then follow public pedestrian routes toward Shichirigahama or Koshigoe. Choose your meal to suit that direction—a French meal with sea views near this station, or a café restaurant in Shichirigahama.

Watch surfing, and also respect the sea's conditions

From this coastline, you can experience the surfing culture of Shonan, but the photo-taking spot is not the meeting point for the course, and you cannot treat any part of the sea as a suitable entry point for beginners. Shichirigahama and Koshigoe are distinct coastal areas, each with its own specialized teaching operators; if you wish to personally experience surfing, instructors will arrange your session based on your ability, wave conditions, and local sea regulations.

WALK A LITTLE FURTHER

Explore Kamakura-kokomae on foot.

  • Kamakura-kokomae Station, sea view

Enjoy the sea view from within the platform safety zone; do not obstruct boarding or alighting, and do not use the platform as a filming location.

    Visiting
Matching travel timing, briefly stopping during train operation hours; for sea views, recommended during daytime hours
    Fees
The platform area falls within the station's paid zone and requires a valid ticket; if you intend to enter the station solely for taking photos, please first confirm with station staff the procedure for entry.
    Reservations
There is no need to book seats when taking the regular Enoden train.
    Suggested visit length
    10–20 minutes (editor's recommendation)
    Planning your visit

Enjoy the platform’s sea view while making a stop as part of your train journey, without occupying boarding areas for photos. Enoden’s FAQ lists traditional card admission tickets at ¥200 for adults and ¥100 for children, but names only six stations that sell them and does not include Kamakura-kokomae. This page therefore does not promise that such tickets can be bought here.

From the famous photo spot to everyday wave watching

After leaving the level crossing, follow the public coastal walking route toward Shichirigahama and turn your gaze from the trains to the sea. Surf reports call the area in front of the station Kamako-mae (鎌高前). You can often see surfers waiting for sets and catching waves, although waves and surfers depend on the day’s sea conditions. This stretch is suited to walking and watching from shore. Entering the water requires a separate assessment of sea conditions and your ability.

    Planning your visit

Decide first whether to eat at Shichirigahama. If you have a reservation, allow walking time plus a buffer for photographs. The coastal route is not shaded throughout; in heat or strong wind, take the train one stop instead. Do not assume the beach provides an unobstructed shortcut all the way.
