Leave the seaside view, curry, and pancakes for the same afternoon

Shichirigahama’s sea views have captivated people since the age of ukiyo-e prints, with surfing, seaside cafés and restaurants adding to its appeal today. Walk from the station along the Yukiai River toward the coast as Sagami Bay opens before you. On the inland side, hillside homes and a cherry-lined walking path move to a different rhythm. Leave time to enjoy the sea and a meal, then decide whether to climb the hill for quieter neighborhood scenery.

From the Yukiai River to the coast, then up the residential hillside

The elevation of coastal restaurants and residential pathways differs from the slope. Cherry blossom viewing is a seasonal option; Mount Fuji requires clear visibility, and sea winds can shorten the time spent along the coastline. Shichirigahama is renowned for its scenic views and surfing, and does not equate to designated seaside bathing areas.

What to look for in each section

THE STORY OF EN09

Leave the seaside view, curry, and pancakes for the same afternoon

Look at the waves from a low place, at the bay from a high place

Shichirigahama is best experienced in two ways: first, from the seaside public walking path, observing the waves and Enoshima; then, depending on stamina, hiking up to a higher elevation to view Sagami Bay from a restaurant's terrace. To see Mount Fuji, favorable weather with good visibility is required; even without a specific view, one can enjoy the constantly changing light and sea surface.

Three types of dining tables, three types of seaside rhythms

Enjoy a rich main course with curry at Sangosho’s seaside branch; slow down over breakfast or afternoon tea with ricotta hotcakes and scrambled eggs at bills; or climb the steps to Amalfi Della Sera for pizza, seafood pasta and a higher terrace view. Choose one and linger, letting the seascape become part of your meal.

Surf scenery and residential slope paths

The surfer figures at Shichirigahama are part of Shonan life; when watching the waves, stay within the accessible coastal spaces. If you'd like to try surfing, first enroll in a professional course. After leaving the seaside, you can head up the slope to the cherry blossom walking trail, experiencing a different kind of quiet rhythm in the residential streets. The seaside, the uphill path, and the restaurant locations vary, so choose your preferred direction before you set out.

WALK A LITTLE FURTHER

Explore Shichirigahama on foot.

  • Shichirigahama Beach

Appreciate the views of Sagami Bay and Enoshima, observing the waves from the pedestrian pathway or open coastline.

    Access hours
Public coast and pedestrian areas; recommended from daytime through around sunset.
    Admission
Strolling along the seaside is free; parking fees apply separately.
    Reservations
Strolling does not require advance booking.
    Suggested visit length
    30–60 minutes (editor's recommendation)
    Planning your visit

Take a coastal walk before or after lunch, no need to wait long for Mount Fuji; if the clouds are thick, the waves and Enoshima direction still look good. Shichirigahama is not one of the three designated seaside bathing spots in the city for this season, and seeing surfers does not mean it's suitable for free swimming.

  • Shichirigahama Cherry Blossom Promenade

A walking path in a hillside residential neighborhood, with cherry blossoms in spring. Reaching it from the coast requires an additional uphill walk.

    Access hours
The residential district public walking trail, recommended for strolling during the day.
    Admission
    Free walking
    Flowering season
Cherry blossoms usually bloom from late March to early April, depending on that year's temperatures.
    Reservations
    No reservation required
    Suggested visit length
20 to 40 minutes, plus uphill and downhill transportation (editor's suggestion)
    Planning your visit

The path is in a hillside residential neighborhood, above the seaside walkway. The Shichirigahama loop bus can reduce the uphill walk. Residents use nearby streets for everyday shopping, so leave room for people to pass when stopping for blossom photographs.

The distribution of shops along the coast and slopes differs; therefore, it is necessary to verify the presence of branch locations. Shichirigahama is primarily known for scenic views and surfing beaches, and visitors should not assume that seawater bathing areas are open.
